Analyzing Functions
Linear Function
A linear expression is expressed symbolically as
f(x)=x
f(x)=x
Exponential Function
An exponential function is expressed symbolically as
f(x)=x²
f(x)=x²
Describing Linear Functions
Create 2 linear functions. Show one algebraically and the other using a verbal description. Compare the 2 functions.
- f(x)=x+3
- In the next function the input of x having the number 7 subtracted from it to get the output of x.
Compare
Comparing the two functions said above you see that one is adding 3 in the function that is expressed algebraically and the one expressed verbally can be expressed algebraically as f(x)=x-7. So a difference between the two is that one has 3 added to it and the the other one has 7 being subtracted from it. A similarity is you are inputing x for both of them.
